This could have been the final game the Islanders ever played at Nassau Coliseum. And it still could be depending on what happens in game seven.
Whatever the outcome Monday, today’s game was a great one. Should the Isles fail to win, there could be no better way to finish up at “the old barn.” The Islanders move to their new home in Brooklyn next season.
When your around a certain place for so long it almost becomes home. Sure the building is outdated. The bathroom lines are long and the hallways too small. On the plus side though, the low ceiling made this arena arguably the loudest arena in the NHL and a point that Islander fans are very proud of.
Fans chanted “Can You Hear Us” this afternoon in response to Washington’ s Alex Ovechkin’s remark last Saturday that the Verizon Center in Washington was louder. I can’t imagine it could be, when I left this afternoon my ears hurt from the volume levels generated by passionate Islander fans.
The Islanders defeated the Capitals 3-1. Here are some images of what the day was like here in Nassau Coliseum.
