If you own a shinny new Nikon Z6 or Z7 mirrorless camera you have an amazing feature called focus peaking. This feature allows you to see exactly what part of an image will be in the sharpest focus with colored highlights appearing over that section of the photo in the EVF (Electronic View Finder) or back screen of the camera.
While this feature isn’t new for Nikon it is a lot more useful now in the mirrorless camera body due to the fact that you can now view the highlights through the EVF.
In this video I walk you through how to activate it in the menu system, how to change the peaking color, and what the various settings mean. If you don’t own a Z series camera you can still follow along as focus peaking is present in other Nikon cameras such as the D850.
